about

The Bardo Variations is a collection of radical reworkings of 5 tracks from Andrew McPherson's 2017 solo release, Bardo, Andrew's return to a more traditional songwriting recording. The Eccodek creator continues to explore new musical territory with each new release and The Bardo Variations is no exception.

Featuring the production work of the UK's Delia Derbyshire Appreciation Society (Six Degrees Records), Ireland's Bernard O'neill (Real World Records), Canada's Rise Ashen (Balanced Records) and Green Heavy Canvas (aka Les Hartai of Eccodek), this collection takes huge sonic risks reinventing the material from Bardo.

You'll hear influences ranging from Eno to Charles Mingus, Squarepusher to Mad Professor, the abstract classicism of Pierre Boulez and the broken beats of Flying Lotus with some tracks barely resembling their original forms. It's arguable that these remixes have truly reinvented the songs written by the twice-Juno nominated Canadian producer and singer. In the case of Rise Ashen's mix, Soul Stirring Symphony (originally titled Audience of None on Bardo), Andrew was so inspired by his treatment that he re-recorded the vocal to better suit Ashen's dubbed out, hip-hop interpretation.
