about

Canadian producer Andrew McPherson returns to the global music arena with the follow up to 2003’s widely acclaimed ‘More Africa in Us’. eccodek’s ‘Voices have eyes’ continues to explore the crossroads where global groove, dub and electronica meet. With six featured singers on the album from countries as diverse as Mali, Turkey, Fiji, Rwanda, Nigeria and India, and a live 6 piece band presentation, this release looks to be as genre defying as the last.

No stranger to collaboration, Andrew has worked with a host of Canadian and international talent. Canada’s Natalie MacMaster, Jane Siberry, Philosopher Kings, Ireland’s Andy White, Seattle’s Pigeonhed and Iceland’s gusgus have all benefited from his distinctive cinematic production. In 2006 Andrew signed a North American deal with White Swan World/Rykodisc, rubbed shoulders with artists Karsh Kale, Antibalas, Nitin Sahwney and others on National Geographic’s GeoRemix project and appears on the latest installment of world renowned global groove series, Buddha Bar IX. Andrew’s remix of ‘Wosoubour’ for Vieux Farka Touré (son of two-time Grammy winner Ali Farka Touré) is released globally this fall and the band scooped the ‘Best World Music Artist’ award at this year’s Canadian Music Awards. Projects currently underway are remixes for Juno winners The McDades and a futuristic soundtrack to accompany an open air live performance of the silent film classic ‘Metropolis’ in downtown Toronto.

‘Voices have eyes’ features the mesmerising talent of Malian kora master Mansa Sissoko, the
seductive vocals of Juno winning ghazal singer Kiran Ahluwalia, the Fijian powerhouse Akuila Qumi and the tribal meltdown of Fiji’s Savusavu Choir among others. Rest assured the familiar bone rattling bass, spaced out production, hypnotising grooves and soaring exotic melodies are all here, taking on a fierce power when presented live by the six piece groove juggernaut. With ‘Voices have eyes’ eccodek continues to expand on the global groove and dub palate shaped by such innovators as African Headcharge, Bill Laswell, Mad Professor and Kruder and Dorfmeister.

“A steadily rocking almagamation of soothing exotic sounds...truly inspired...” -eye weekly

“An Afrodub groovefest.” -CMJ Weekly
