about

‘More Africa in Us’ is the first offering from eccodek, the brainchild of Canadian producer and remixer Andrew McPherson. McPherson has been honing his craft as part of US chart-topping, electro-jazz project four80east and in remixes for Iceland’s gusgus, Ireland’s Andy White, Canada’s Jane Siberry, Philosopher Kings, Natalie MacMaster and Seattle’s Pigeonhed.

‘More Africa in Us’ weaves together a hypnotic blend of ancient African voices, ethnic and urban grooves, middle eastern melodies and electronic textures in a progressive dub mix. Like the cross-cultural experiments of Bill Laswell, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation and African Head Charge, ‘More Africa in Us’ is a seductive postcard from a world apart. With voices from Mali and Rwanda, the mournful wail of the Mongolian erhu, African, mid-eastern and modern grooves and McPherson’s distinctive multi-instrumental and mixing style, this is a hybrid of great depth, beauty and seduction.

“One of the most outstanding contemporary dub albums to come out of this country.”-eye weekly

“The overall hypnosis is thoroughly enjoyable...like Frederic Galliano accomplished with his African Divas.” –Global Rhythm Magazine

“An ethereal, atmospheric global soundtrack.”
-Toronto Star

“McPherson’s dub smarts...grooves are immense.”
-Now Magazine

'More Africa in Us' serves as a taste of McPherson's undeniable talents as a sonic architect." -Boston Globe

“Not a single track on the album is less than enjoyable…half are brilliant.’ -Allmusicguide.com
